Recyclen Plastic Recycling Ltd. was founded as a Hungarian–German joint venture in 1989. Production began in 1991 following a greenfield site investment of HUF 200M.

Observing the owners’ intentions, our company has become a production plant of significant capacity on the outskirts of Budapest, in the Nagytétény area. We recycle plastic waste that is generated in Hungary in larger amounts (HDPE, LDPE, PP, PS, ABS and PVC). Our activity has so far managed to give new form to tens of thousands of tons of industrial and commercial plastic waste to serve the building industry, traffic control, the packaging sector and the agriculture with finished and semi-finished products. A significant and increasing proportion of our goods find their destination in the export markets of Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

After several changes in the ownership structure, the majority owner of Recyclen, PANNONPLAST Plastic Manufacturing PLC became the exclusive owner in 1995. Recyclen Ltd. was formed into a private enterprise by the end of 2004 after functioning for ten years as a subsidiary company. We are members of the Association of Hungarian Waste Recyclers and the founding joint owners of REMOPLAST PC, created in 2001 to manage the plastic waste produced in the packaging industry.

Environment protection and innovation

One of the greatest global problems of our time is environment protection. On the other hand, one of the most dynamic branches of world economy is the environment industry that includes waste recycling. Plastic waste management is a most complex process as plastics, compared to other materials, have a short life cycle but exist in countless variations and are produced in growing numbers to end up as waste. Exposed to nature, they decompose very slowly or not at all, therefore the only satisfactory solution is recycling.

The first types of plastic appeared at the dawn of the 20th century to replace wood, metal, stone, paper and other natural materials with a light and cheap alternative. By now, plastic production has grown to be a whole industry that serves us in all walks of life, making plastics omnipresent: they are with us in our houses, furniture, cars, household and electric appliances and even in our clothes. After losing their function, they become waste that is useless and dangerous.

Recyclen Ltd. is engaged in processing plastic waste to turn it into new products. The items that have been created during our 15 years (e.g. baseplates, flat and corrugated sheets) were born like the earliest plastic products: we tried to replace wood, stone, metal and paper with cheap stock.

We happen to serve the environment not merely by recycling but also by the products that have environmental functions as well – noise barrier walls to block highway noise, speed bumps for slower traffic, compost boxes to store organic waste etc.

As the above motto reads, our purpose is to return recycled materials back in the circle. The route of innovation is the same as the route of plastic for a hundred years now: new products are to be designed and manufactured from recycled stock. We count on everybody’s help to achieve that. As long as plastic is around, we have a job to do…
